Following her first triathlon race, Joanna knew she wanted to fully dedicate herself on the sport triathlon and see where it might take her.

As an active kid growing up in a small farming community just outside of Ottawa (Carp, Ontario) Joanna played almost every sport avaiiable to her. She loved to work hard and compete despite her young age, excelling in soccer and cross-country running.  In 2007, she attended her first training session at a triathlon club in Ottawa (Bytown Storm Triathlon Team) and found her true calling in the sport of Triathlon. Following her first triathlon race, Joanna knew she wanted to fully dedicate herself on the sport triathlon and see where it might take her.

A naturally gifted runner, Joanna competed in her first race which was rainy, overcast and freezing cold, but the conditions did not matter. She was hooked and officially left soccer to pursue a career in triathlon.

Joanna made her entrance onto the world stage in 2010 when she won the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships. She followed that up with a sixth-place finish in 2011 and then a bronze at the 2012 U23 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand (as a 19 year-old.) The true leader in the Canadian system, Joanna has a number of lofty goals in the sport: to be a full-time podium contender on World Championship Series circuits; to win an Olympic gold medal for Canada at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

When not travelling the world competing, Joanna is working towards a degree in Commerce at the University of Guelph.
